“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” – Rumi
As cliché as this quote is, it’s true. And if we apply it to the “wound” of current politics – the deliberate division, lack of detailed care, attentiveness for the collective, love for improving public services, respect for democracy and the values and craft it upholds – then it’s the light of care, curiosity, intentional action and awareness that will ultimately hold politics and heal it.
A destructive politics is a painful wound as much as a peaceful politics is a healed and nurtured one to the extent that the wound no longer exists.
Read that again.
I was thinking of this quote last week on the day of the Spring Equinox, the moment where day and night come into equal balance before the light slowly returns. Spring, in its essence, means more light, more natural energy – the season is lighter, we become brighter, and from there possibilities begin to emerge and actualise.
If nature can impact us as individuals in such a profound way – changing our mood, enlightening our subconscious, urging us to pay attention to the seasons, revitalising our energy and materially enriching us with its abundance – then how does it impact the decisions we make on a collective level?
In other words, how does nature, energy, the Universe influence politics?
This may seem like a radical question. But then is it so radical when we ground ourselves into earthy, material reality, where we create and actualise things into existence from our thoughts, beliefs and energy? Aren’t all these things deeply interconnected? How can they not be?
The most meaningful of things – ideas, relationships, institutions – must have roots to grow, to flourish, to flower. They need to be grounded in the depth and realness of reality before they emerge. And this requires constant attentiveness and nourishment if they are to remain active and alive.
This is where political astrology – which awakens the subconscious and activates the conscious – steps into the process of our becoming and evolution.
The way you show up and choose how you experience current chaos is the kind of experience you will have in that chaos.
This is my key takeaway from this month in the current political climate where, over the last few days I’ve been dipping in and out of writing this piece, we’ve witnessed announcements from the UK Government that it intends to drastically cut welfare benefits during a severe cost of living crisis, the U.S Government has committed a serious security breach whilst inadvertently (or maybe deliberately?) offending European governments, and large public protests have been taking place in Turkey in response to the jailing of the country’s most popular politician, the Mayor of Istanbul. Other things are happening at a rapid and unexpected pace. Something is clearly in the air. I can feel it. You probably can too.
What is this new energy?
As indicated in my previous post, March 2025 is the busiest and biggest month this year in astrology. 2025 as a whole has an energy of the unexpected with all of the outer planets changing signs and the inner planets retrograding. But March appears to be the supernova moment when a star has reached the end of its life and explodes into a brilliant burst of light.
In this moment do we place our focus and feeling on the eruption and tension of the explosion? Or do we put our attention and emotion towards the incredible force of light appearing, expanding and healing us in the long-term?
🪐 March 2025 Astrology 🪐
On 14 March and 29 March, we have eclipses taking place which correlate with sudden events shaking things up.
14 March saw the Virgo Full Moon eclipse. It was also the beginning of Mercury stationing retrograde, meaning that perfectionist-orientated Virgo has had to loosen its grip on control. This can be reflected by Trump’s decision to impose a 200% tariff on EU alcohol, highlighting that rational or perfectionist thinking isn’t necessarily the most helpful response when illogical and rash decisions are being made by someone who is neither logical nor rational.
With the North Node (which is associated with our soul’s purpose) now in Pisces, this encourages us to gently embrace flow, trust, self-worth and resilience to help our soul’s evolution during this time.
Despite the unusual and sharp political shocks occurring right now, our souls have come here to contribute and evolve right now for a reason. That reason is often your gift to share with others which taps into the collective shift in consciousness and action associated with the Age of Aquarius we’re now in. If we have leaders who are highly irrational, egotistical and prone to outrage and self-interest, how do we contribute and respond as a collective?
On 20 March we moved into the Spring Equinox, marking the beginning of the new Astrological year and move into Aries season. As a fire sign, Aries represents taking action, bold moves and leadership. With the eclipse on the 29 March, the Universe will propel us forward, requesting we go with the Universal flow of things. Things will happen. But how do we show up and respond to them?
The 29 March Aries solar eclipse is deemed to be the “Riskiest Solar Eclipse of 2025”. With Aries ruled by Mars, the planet of action and aggression, and with both Mercury and Venus in retrograde, from a political perspective, it could be fiery and tense day.
Mercury represents communication, rationality, reasoning and adaptability and Venus represents love, harmony, values and appreciation. If both are in retrograde on the day of this eclipse, the energy of this day could be one of conflict. Recent news reports have warned of war risks – such as the announcement today (26 March) that the EU Commission has issued a 30-step plan for dealing with increasing threats, including aggression from Russia – anything could happen.

The timing of this is intriguing, with Neptune – the planet farthest away from the Sun and named after the Roman God of the sea (which is extremely interesting with us now being in the Age of Aquarius which is symbolised by the water bearer) – moving into Aries and will remain there until 2039.
Neptune is one of my favourite planets as it’s the planet of inspiration, love, magic, spirituality, intuition and compassion. As an ice giant, it makes me think of Dr Masaru Emoto’s famous crystal experiment which found that water that had been exposed to loving words created beautiful, dazzling snowflake patterns. How we speak to ourselves and perceive a situation can either help us or diminish us. How we move forward with Neptune over the next fourteen years will determine how well we progress and contribute as individuals during a time which is very much centred on the collective.
The downside of Neptune is that it can cloud and distort our perception of reality and accuracy – imagine an influencer on Instagram posting about their luxurious lifestyle but IRL lives a life of scarcity. It can make us place our attention on things which don’t benefit anyone or distracts us from the things which actually matter.
Neptune isn’t always clear cut and factual (unlike Saturn) and so there is a risk of deception if we don’t keep an equal balance between logic and feeling, dreaming and doing. Vision always needs to be backed up substance – the substance of sense, logic and growth as well as the substance of heart, intention and energetic alignment.
As noted by Kyla Scanlon, the “vacuum of trustworthy leadership sets the stage for a world where political theatre becomes the main act.” Can we understand and differentiate the craft and care that creates and sustains democracies from the decimation and destruction that comes from authoritarianism?
Many astrologers have zoned in on Neptune’s upcoming transit from Pisces into Aries as this is the first time that Neptune has made this shift since April 1861 which corresponds with the beginning of the American Civil War. This is an exceptionally good analysis and breakdown of how the American Civil War came into being and the astrology that was taking place during that time, especially the point on increased tariffs and taxes which is also playing out now under the Trump administration.
Spotting events and correlating them with what’s happening in astrology (such as this story on the astronauts who are back on Earth after being stranded in space for 9 months – very Age of Aquarius!) has been something that I’ve found empowering and reassuring over the last few years. It’s as if I’ve been given a third eye, or a new sense.
History, when you pay close attention to the details, is inclined to flip back on itself unless the person catalysing a historical moment knows better. If they are informed, aware and conscious, they will know to act differently than their predecessors did to shape a more beneficial outcome for all. This is why political astrology is so important, even fundamental, to history and our understanding of the future. It acts as a complimentary lens to understand different times and people. Astrology is the connecting factor across the vast and diverse landscape of history.
The astrology for March symbolises awakenings, action and leadership on a personal and collective level. To effect leadership someone must start leading, even if they don’t have the title of leader – yet. Embodiment must come before becoming.
The last few years have focused on self-care and being our own main character. But these things are wasted when never offered and gifted to others. As we start anew in this Aries season, Neptune will remind us that a different approach requires a new vision and belief system which enables us to easily dissolve old systems and structures which aren’t working whilst elevating trust within ourselves to create ones that do.
The alchemy of aligned action works best when we are aligned internally as well as externally with likeminded people. This is what will distinguish the idealist and dreamer from the realist and doer in this new astrological cycle. What will you do differently?
